Was on the Goose from May 56 to April 57. Went to the Med twice, Cuba, Haiti, The Canal Zone. We won the big E when I was aboard. Capt. Thatcher was in command. It was a great experience for me and I look back with fond memories.

Tom Lilly was my assistant supply officer and my relief. He made Rear Admiral in the Naval Reserve. I switched to Intelligence in the Reserve and retired as a Commander in 1973. Spent 37 years with the same bank (now SunTrust) in Richmond before retiremen in 1994. Now active in Second Baptist Church, the Navy League and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. We kept our grandson first three and then two days a week for almost four years until our daughter-in-law left the business world to be a full-time mother and wife in September, 2000. Keeping him was the best job we ever had.

Hi all! I served on the Betelgeuse from the summer of 1963 till Feb 1966 as a Machinist Mate in "M" Division. I came aboard as a MMFN and left as a MM2. Spent my whole tour in the engineroom. I was discharged Feb 66, returned home to Rochester, NY and wen to work for Eastman Kodak Company as a stationary engineer in the Steam & Electric generation plants. I was able to retire after 31 years and am now working on getting the website going for the Betelgeuse Assocation. If you have any ideas, comments or in ormation that will make the site better, please don't hesitate to click on my email link and let me know.
